A Kaleidoscope Of color in Ranunculas and Tulips

This is a vase of flowers I plunked on the table the other day. Just a simple, random bunch of tulips and ranunculas.
It is as natural for me to have flowers around as it is to breath;
I am never without them.
I don't know how people can live without flowers.
"you need food to nourish your body, and beauty to nourish your soul" ~ spoken as a true artist!
How can one live without such beauty?

Emily and Eric @ the Pierre Hotel....

Emily knew she wanted all white blossoms in the winter, ~ she also knew she wanted tree branches reaching from table to table to create a bower for the guests to sit and walk under....Her mom knew she wanted a large full centerpiece, ("I like alot of flowers!") and Eric (the groom) well, he just wanted a boutonniere!

Emily wanted to give the guests a petite jar of preserves with their names and the date on each of 6 varieties that were made by a charming shop near their house on Martha's vineyard, and the Pierre had mini croissants made so we could put 2 in each box for the guests to take with them when they left @ 2a.m.!
Sylvia Wienstock's ALWAYS amazing cakes!
Photos by the Fabulous Fred Marcus Photographers!

of Course, Chris Edmonds and Bill Spinner from the Pierre Hotel did a flawless job as always...

Ok so here are the green (and gold) skeletons!

These lil guys came in pieces, so the first thing to do is to glue wooden picks into the joints to get them to pose as needed

So here's a little guy almost done, leaning up against the walnut logs we're using on the escort table...(some will also be cut into discs for the candles on the dinner tables.)

I'll tell ya one thing, there's a whole lotta gluin' gonin' on!

Yes, as promised, here are a few shots of the glitter skeletons we're creating for the Halloween wedding!
This is the early incarnation of them, but I'll post more pictures when they are finished.
I'll tell you this, I'm gonna miss the warm Autumn weather when it goes... It is SO much nicr working outdoors than inside.

Party O Pumpkins at the Metropolitan Club

Each year we grow more and more pumpkins and they seem to be wildly popular this year.  Two parties in one week with the pumpkin centerpieces; one @ the Metropolitan Club on east 60th st. and one @ the Harvard Club on east 44th st.   Funny thing, both events were attended by mostly men...guess guys love pumpkins...

Here are a few pictures of the cocktail arrangements that complimented the pumpkins.

And of course, we grew everything but the peppers! (maybe we'll grow some next summer...)

The Time Has Come...

Although this weekend is suppose to warm up,  the chill of this morning has sent a clear message that the time has come to start cleaning up the potted garden, and preparing the plants to return to the glass room...

O well, no time like the present ~ this weekend's wedding in Old Lyme Connecticut, and next weekend's in Houston means no time but today!
(strike while the iron is hot!)

My l'il  pomegranate should look so good!

Shall we all meet in the Autumn?

"Are these gorgeous flowers from your garden?"
The question was asked of me with such an incredulous tone that I responded, no doubt, with the same surprise; " Well of course, ~ I'm a florist and what florist DOESN'T grow his own flowers?"
(if he's able)

Obviouly this never crossed my clients mind (she works in finance and apparently thinks flowers are machine made).  And so, although a new concept to her, she admired the sample design and ordered 52 pieces...

Now, as the colder days (and much rain) approach, I'm gathering the green tomatos, yellow and green gourds, and the rest of  the dahlias before they fizzle out.  And while I rummage through the last whithering vines in search of a stray,  I laugh to myself,  and think "I can't believe these gorgeous flowers came from my garden!"
